Event Profile
The 18th International Symposium on Transportation and Traffic Theory (ISTTT18) intends to afford an interacting forum to highlight both scientific and operational aspects of transportation and traffic, spanning all modes of transport, including freight as well as private and public transport. The symposium is jointly organized by Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies and Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. ISTTT18 Symposium 2009 will bring together world's leading transportation and traffic theorists, and those who are interested in contributing to or gaining a deeper understanding of the field.

The 18th International Symposium on Transportation and Traffic Theory will cover the following topics:
  • Traffic flow theories and their implications
  • Traffic management and traffic control
  • Dynamics of transport phenomena, especially coupled with observation and/or experimentation
  • Long term dynamics of spatial activity and transport interactions
  • Distributed intelligence in intelligent transport systems
  • Real-time information, travel behaviour and system management
  • Consistency between multiple levels of representation of traffic and transportation phenomena ( e.g. Microscopic vs. Macroscopic)
  • Interplay between measurement and theory
  • Properties of transportation optimization problems
  • Travel behaviour processes and demand modelling
  • Transportation system behaviour under extreme conditions
  • Interactions between transport system user classes, e.g. Mixed-mode traffic (incl. Non-motorized)
  • Dynamic network assignment, route control and congestion pricing
  • Scheduled modes (public transport, air networks): system planning, service design and operations
  • Demand responsive transport, including dial-a-ride and taxis
  • Pedestrian and crowd modelling, volatile dynamics
  • Transport safety
  • Routing and scheduling in transportation systems
  • Multidimensional network model formulations, properties and algorithms
  • Freight transport modelling, logistics and supply chains
  • Network planning and design, reliability and robustness
